This is a 5 MB cut from the first track on the Star Trek Original Series HD-DVDs... HD-DVDs were decrypted and ripped using SlySoft AnyDVD HD, and playback was attempted with mplayer SVN r25035 under Ubuntu Gutsy.  This EVO *does* have E-AC3 and mlp tracks (and my mplayer is patched accordingly) but purposes of debugging, playback has been attempted with -ao null.  

Attempting to play this file in non-verbose mode starts with mplayer just sitting there and ends with it failing back out to the shell.  No playback window is initialized.

mplayer in Verbose mode returns the following (many identical lines cut to make the file not 18 MB):
